Is it just me or this eerily reminiscent of Brittany Murphy's death? She also complained of flu symptoms before her death. Are they taking some type of over the counter medication with perhaps some type of prescription meds that caused a chain reaction leading to death???

This is just too weird.

New ChitChat entry:

flu like symptoms = too many prescription drugs!!!

Too many prescription drugs causes dizzy, unsteady on feet, thowing up. So they say they have the "flu" to get more pills, but the pills are causing the "flu".

Corey Feldman Grieving Tragic Death of 'Brother' Corey Haim

Wednesday March 10, 2010 02:05 PM EST

people.com

In a statement released Wednesday after Corey Haim's untimely death at age 38, longtime friend and frequent costar Corey Feldman expressed grief at the loss of his "best friend."

"I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived.

Celebrity tributes pour in for Corey Haim

Actor Corey Feldman is devastated by the death of his friend, Corey Haim, revealing he woke up to the terrible news on Wednesday.

Haim reportedly suffered a drug overdose at his home in Oakwood, Calif., early Wednesday morning. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at St Joseph's hospital in Burbank.

Feldman, the 38-year-old's co-star in "The Lost Boys," "License To Drive," "Last Resort" and reality TV show "The Two Coreys," reveals he learned of his pal's death as he woke up.

He says, "I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother, Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face.

"I am so sorry for Corey, his mother, Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son, who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school.

"This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time."

Meanwhile, Haim's ex-girlfriend Nicole Eggert has opened up about her feelings, telling TV news show "Entertainment Tonight" she's "very saddened" about the news and the fact that her former lover and co-star was "unable to overcome the demons he so deeply struggled with."

Alyssa Milano, who also once dated the star, wrote on Twitter: "Just woke up to the sad, sad news that Corey Haim passed away. RIP sweet boy," while director Kevin Smith tweeted: "Lost Boy goes home: Corey Haim, dead at 38. ... G'bye, LUCAS. You gave hope to the weird & unlikely."

Christina Applegate adds: "My thoughts go out to Corey's family and friends today. So sad."

Ralph Macchio also expressed his condolences: "Always so sad and disturbing when the addiction and demons prevail. RIP Corey Haim."

According to Los Angeles Coroner assistant chief Ed Winter, there were no signs of foul play in Haim's death. Winter has confirmed four "normal" prescription bottles were found at the actors apartment and "no illicit drugs (were) found at the residence."

Haim's cause of death will be released pending the results of his autopsy and toxicology reports.

Corey Haim prolonged tragic Hollywood tradition

Corey Haim's story is sadly familiar in Hollywood: A teen talent who discovered drugs as he tasted his first success and whose personal problems increased as his star-power faded.

Haim died Wednesday at 38, another chapter in Hollywood's tragic history of careers ravaged by drugs.

Brittany Murphy's career was rebounding when she died at 31 in December from pneumonia and prescription drugs.

River Phoenix was 16 when he starred in "Stand By Me" and 23 when he died of a drug overdose outside a Hollywood nightclub.

Haim died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, His mother called paramedics after he collapsed while getting out of bed at his apartment.

Haim started working in TV commercials at 10 and was a big-screen heartthrob at 15. The star of 1987's "The Lost Boys" discovered drugs while making that movie.

"I was working on 'Lost Boys' when I smoked my first joint," he told the British tabloid The Sun in 1994. "I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack."

Haim said he went into rehab and was put on prescription drugs. In 2007, he told ABC's "Nightline" that drugs hurt his career.

"I wasn't functional enough to work for anybody, even myself," he said. "I wasn't working."

Haim had returned to the spotlight in recent years, appearing in the A&E reality TV show "The Two Coreys" with "Lost Boys" co-star Corey Feldman. The show was canceled in 2008 after two seasons. Feldman later said Haim's drug abuse strained their working and personal relationships.

Haim was ill with flulike symptoms before his death, and police said he was taking over-the-counter and prescription medications.

An autopsy will determine his cause of death. There was no evidence of foul play.

"He could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs," police Sgt. William Mann said. "He has had a drug problem in the past."

Feldman said he wept when he learned Haim had died.

"This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend," Feldman said in a statement.

Troy Searer, an executive producer of "The Two Coreys," said Haim's "heart and his potential were only outmatched by his demons."

Dr. Drew Pinsky, an addiction-medicine specialist and star of VH1's drug-treatment reality programs "Celebrity Rehab" and "Sober House," said the lure of Hollywood attracts many potential addicts.

"There's a higher incidence of addiction among celebrities," he said. "It's not the Hollywood-ness. It's the fact that addicts show up in Hollywood and addicts are likely to die."

Pinsky added: "Young Hollywood only reflects what's going on in the culture at large."

Jennifer Gimenez, an actress and recovering drug addict and alcoholic who appears on "Sober House," said Hollywood's ultra-competitive environment can lead some people to seek escape in substances.

"I don't feel like Hollywood takes you down," she said. "I just feel like it co-signs it a lot."

Gimenez found success at 14 as a model and suddenly had to shoulder adult-sized responsibilities. Add the pressure of working in a competitive industry, and a person predisposed to addiction succumbs, she said.

Successful actors are not immune to the dangers of addiction. Heath Ledger was poised for superstardom when he overdosed in 2008 at age 28. He posthumously won the Oscar the following year for his work as the Joker in "The Dark Knight."

Haim's career outlook had been improving in recent months, and his neighbors told reporters the actor was looking healthier and getting stronger.

He had a role in the 2009 Jason Statham action flick "Crank 2: High Voltage" and was making appearances to support his new film "American Sunset," billed on his Web site as the first film he had starred in "since he left the business on a sabbatical."

Haim's agent Mark Sterling and producers of "American Sunset" did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

Searer said he last spoke to Haim about six months ago, when the actor "seemed incredibly positive."

"He had done a few smaller films and things seemed to be on the upswing for him," Searer said.

Haim, however, seemed sadly prophetic when he was interviewed by CNN's Larry King in 2007, calling himself "a chronic relapser for the rest of my life."

This is just too weird.

It seems that the prescription meds they are taking are masking the symptoms of illnesses that would otherwise cause them to seek medical attention before it is too late.

Corey Haim -- Vicodin, Valium, Soma Found

TMZ has learned the 4 pill bottles found in the apartment where Corey Haim collapsed yesterday included the generic versions of Vicodin and Valium ... and the same doctor prescribed all 4 powerful meds just days before Haim died.

Law enforcement sources tell us the pill bottles retrieved in the apartment of Haim's mother are hydrocodone (Vicodin), diazepam (Valium), haloperidol (an antipsychotic med) and Soma (a muscle relaxer).

We're told all 4 meds were prescribed by a prominent Los Angeles psychiatrist. Sources say all 4 meds were prescribed the same day -- several days before Haim died.

The L.A. County Coroner's Office would not comment on the specific meds found, nor would officials say how many pills -- if any -- were missing from the bottles.

There have been reports Haim admitted in the past to taking as many as 85 Valium pills a day.

Corey Feldman: 'Corey Haim died destitute'

Former child star Corey Haim was "destitute" when he died, according to his close friend Corey Feldman.

"The Lost Boys" star was discovered unresponsive at his mother's California home on Wednesday and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Burbank.

Feldman, who starred in a string of movies with Haim, remained close to his pal up until his sudden death, and admits he was living in a budget apartment with his mother in his final days, because he was so "broke" he couldn't even afford a car.

Feldman tells Larry King, "Corey was living in the Oakwood Apartments with his mom, very broke, very destitute. It's a month-to-month living. He doesn't have anything. He didn't even have a car."

Haim filed for bankruptcy protection in 1997 after allegedly running up massive medical bills and owing more than $200,000 in state and federal taxes.

Nicole Eggert Reflects On Haim Romance

Nicole Eggert has reportedly paid tribute to former co-star and ex-boyfriend Corey Haim, saying she "loved him dearly".

The Lost Boys actor passed away on Wednesday. An autopsy has reportedly suggested that he suffered from pulmonary congestion.

Speaking to Access Hollywood's Maria Menonous, Eggert explained that she met Haim when they were both around 14 years old, and they soon became engaged.

"We were underage. I was under 17," she said. "It's funny to me now in hindsight because we wouldn't have been allowed to be married... we loved each other dearly."

She continued to say that they remained friends after their split, adding: "We were friends always. I don't think that the friendship stops."

Eggert added that she had not spoken to Haim for a "year or two", saying: "The last time I spoke with Corey was, he wanted me to get involved with the show, The Two Coreys."

Haim will reportedly be buried in his native Toronto.

Authorities: No illegal drugs found in Haim case

Friday, March 12, 2010

(03-12) 10:56 PST LOS ANGELES, (AP) --

Authorities said Friday they had recovered four prescription drug bottles bearing the name of actor Corey Haim but found nothing illegal while investigating his death.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter declined to identify the drugs. Haim was battling flulike symptoms in the days before he died.

Winter said an autopsy was done Thursday, but his office was awaiting the results of toxicology tests that could take two months before determining a cause of death.

Haim died Wednesday at age 38 after collapsing at his mother's apartment. The actor battled drug addiction for years.

He earned fame for roles in the 1980s films "Lucas" and "The Lost Boys." He recently completed several film projects.

"Access Hollywood" reported on its Web site that Judy Haim had been told by the coroner's office that her son had an enlarged heart and his lungs were filled with water.

Winter confirmed his office had called Judy Haim, but he declined to say what they discussed.

Corey Haim's Family Asking Fans to Help Pay for Funeral

Friday – March 12, 2010 – 4:10pm

Corey Haim will be buried in his native Toronto next week - and his family is asking fans to help cover some of the cost.

"Due to the unexpected expenses of transporting his body to Canada for final resting, a fund has been set up to help his family," reads a statement on his official website.

The site includes instructions on how to send money via Paypal or through the mail:

Corey Haim Memorial Fund

c/o Judy Haim

P. O. Box 87655

298 John Street

Thornhill, Ontario L3T - 7R4 CANADA

Haim died Wednesday at age 38. Though his mother Judy has said he suffered pulmonary congestion, L.A. County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter tells UsMagazine.com: "We did an autopsy. We gave his mother some preliminary findings but it does not mean it is the final cause of death. The final cause of death is pending toxicology and other reports. We did discuss issues involving his heart and lungs. We are not going to comment on specifics until the final results come back. It could be up to six weeks."

Haim's longtime pal Corey Feldman told CNN's Larry King earlier this week that Haim -- who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1997, listing debts for medical expenses and more than $200,000 in state and federal taxes -- was "very broke, very destitute. Feldman said he was living with his breast cancer-stricken mother in a "month-to-month living" complex in Los Angeles.

Feldman said Haim was so broke he "didn't even have a car."

I really used to like Dr. Drew, but now he really needs to STFU. Very unprofessional, makes him lose any credibility he had.

No...He was broke and so is she and she's surprised how many people are coming forward saying that they cared about him, so its an attempt to capitalize also. I'm pretty sure family members could put the money together if they had to!

Report: Corey Haim had enlarged heart

Corey Haim had pulmonary congestion, according to initial findings by a Los Angeles coroner - but officials have not determined if the condition killed the former child star.

The "Lost Boys" star died from a suspected drug overdose in his mother's Los Angeles apartment on Wednesday.

His cause of death has not yet been determined but TMZ.com reports four medications, including painkiller Vicodin, prescribed to Haim were found in the property.

The website also alleges experts at the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office have informed Haim's mother Judy that the actor had pulmonary congestion, an enlarged heart and water in his lungs.

An official cause of death will not be released until a toxicology report is concluded.

Meanwhile, Haim will be remembered twice in his native Toronto, Canada and in his adopted Los Angeles. His remains will be flown back to Canada for a funeral and a memorial service is also being planned in Los Angeles.

Corey Haim Connection to Massive Drug Ring

Corey Haim Connection to Massive Drug RingCorey Haim's death is now under investigation -- and has been linked to an "illegal and massive prescription drug ring."

State Attorney General Jerry Brown says his office is conducting a probe of Haim's death because an unauthorized prescription in his name was found during a probe of fraudulent drug-prescription pads in San Diego.

Brown said the prescription drug ring under investigation operates by ordering prescription drug pads from authorized vendors using stolen doctor identities -- i.e., identity fraud.

The pads are sold on the street to prescription drug addicts or dealers.

The A.G. notes that many of the doctors whose names are printed on the forms are unaware that his or her identity has been stolen.

Friends, Family Mourn Corey Haim at "Very Sad" Funeral

Today 10:19 AM PDT by Gina Serpe

Eonline.com

The Lost Boy has been laid to rest.

More than 200 friends and family filled (to capacity) the Steeles Memorial Chapel in Corey Haim's hometown of Toronto today, where they had gathered for the funeral of the late star.

Even more fans and mourners gathered outside the chapel while the private service—paid for in part by the celebrity memorabilia site Startifacts—took place.

While Haim's frequent costar and longtime friend Corey Feldman announced yesterday that he would not be attending the funeral, the actor's second cousin was present.

Feldman relation Maytal Kotler told the Toronto Star that the 45-minute service for the late 38-year-old was "very sad but with a lot of laughter." Afterwards, the funeral procession left under the protection of seven patrol cars.

Feldman, meanwhile, is busy planning a Los Angeles memorial for Haim, though no details on that service have yet been released.
