Hoyaheel 1,874 Report post Posted March 31, 2022 That is a bitter as hell "blind". Dang, boy, who hurt you? [are there others like me who are somewhere in the middle, believing there was "bad" on all sides? I lean more toward Meghan & Harry - who the fuck ignores suicidal ideation in ANYONE much less a "close" family member??? - but I don't think they're blameless in how things played out and continue to play out - but online it's like you can only be one or the other, no shades of gray.....I read stuff online but I won't comment 'cause holy hell it's dangerous]

Wordsworth 703 Report post Posted April 4, 2022 To be fair, if someone had told me the Queen was going to get Andrew, of all people, to escort her to her seat at her husband’s memorial, I’d have assumed that was an April Fool. Harry and Meghan aren’t the biggest threat to the monarchy within the eyes of the U.K. public; it’s Andrew. Genuinely amazed at that decision.
Maxiemom 623 Report post Posted April 5, 2022 I *kind* of get Andrew escorting her strictly from a logistical standpoint. He's also single. An escort from Charles, William, or even Edward poses the issue of how their spouse gets down the aisle. This doesn't outweigh or negate the terrible optics associated with trotting Andrew out so publicly in my opinion.
witchkitten 309 Report post Posted April 5, 2022 I've seen a lot of people defending the decision to have Andrew escort the Queen because he's her son. The reasoning goes you can't expect a mother to turn on her son even if he is a vile piece of crap (though you wouldn't blame her if she did either), which I generally agree with when it comes to regular people but Elizabeth is the Queen. She gets a boatload of money from the public and is given a position of power and influence so she doesn't get to act like a regular mother in public. She's supposed to belong to the people in a sense. Obviously, she can do what she wants in private. I don't begrudge her a relationship with her sexual predator son, but allowing him to escort her to an event in public doesn't just look bad, it's wrong, IMO.
witchkitten 309 Report post Posted April 5, 2022 Anyone else see the coverage of Will and Kate's disastrous trip to the Caribbean? The monarchy is just so tone deaf and inflexible. An outdated institution in the modern world. The images of them greeting those people who are behind the fence is especially cringeworthy. https://www.independent.co.uk/world/william-kate-bahamas-slavery-b2042524.html

Trust me - I am NOT defending the decision for Andrew to escort The Queen to a public event of any sort. But I can see a circumstance where others might - optics and/or morality be d@mned.

My statement, though it wasn’t clear at all, was in response to all the people I saw defending the decision online. I just needed to get that off my chest. I didn’t think you were defending it. It’s mind boggling that this even happened. They had to have known how terrible it was going to come across and they did it anyway.
Hoyaheel 1,874 Report post Posted April 6, 2022 Yes, the whole public/private thing is a big issue for Andrew because of his ego (his id? who knows 😉) He's always been Mom's Favorite, no one expected that to change (I find that everyone agrees he's always been the favorite, but half the people say it's because he's the product of her affair with Porchy and the other half say he's the result of the "coming back together" with Phillip, re-cementing THEIR love after HIS affairs. I personally think he's Phillip's son and I also think Phillip never stopped having affairs, so who knows why Andrew is the favorite....) @witchkitten- celebitchy's coverage of the FlopTour was hysterical. Bordering on mean a little (that's one site where I do not ever comment - and sometimes I flinch reading others' comments - yikes) But for that tour, entirely appropriate.....
Wordsworth 703 Report post Posted April 8, 2022 From a British perspective, I think the tour has made barely a ripple. If you’re a monarchist, you’re reading the papers where the articles on damage control have already been published (that fence shot was inadvertent and has been done by others, William had privately disagreed with how the tour was run, etc) and will go with that. If you’re a republican (sticks hand up) you already knew the monarchy was outdated and tone deaf so you’re not surprised in the slightest that someone cocked it up. You think the tour was in itself an acknowledgment that the commonwealth is heading for a break up, as people change their views on royalty and governance. To be honest, far more interesting to me has been the creep of announcements about what will happen when the queen dies (camilla will in fact by Queen consort, etc). The firm know a handover is coming and that it could be a fragile moment for the continuation of the crown, even in the U.K.. They’re trying to prepare the Brits. Harry and Meghan remaining senior royals wouldn’t have changed the above IMO - ultimately it’s about degree of privilege. and Andrew’s a dick, but that’s unrelated to the above - I just like repeating it. 1
princess 1,712 Report post Posted April 11, 2022 I watched the Netflix Spencer movie with Kristen Stewart. I wasn't a fan of the movie. She did ok with the role (but I'm shocked she nominated for Oscar - it wasn't that good), but the script was awful.

princess 1,712 Report post Posted April 22, 2022 Meghan Markle's First Podcast for Spotify Is Announced https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2022/03/meghan-markle-first-podcast-spotify-archetypes-women-media-labels ...Spotify revealed that the Duchess of Sussex's debut series via her production company Archewell Audio will be titled Archetypes and is scheduled to launch this summer. The podcast will “investigate the labels that try to hold women back,” according to a press release about the show, and feature the royal in conversation with various historians and experts as they seek to “uncover the origin of these stereotypes and have uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape narratives.” Who plans to listen in?? Hoyaheel 1,874 Report post Posted May 13, 2022 The Queen probably won't attend many of "her" Jubilee events, due to her health (Whatever it is - if it's her back & mobility only & they - horribly - don't want her seen/photographed in a wheelchair - or if it's other stuff going on - hell, she IS 96). Sad (esp the garden parties, which she is said to quite enjoy - no idea why they couldn't reschedule one to Windsor and set her up in a chair in a tent and let her participate in whatever way she can!) BUT she did make it to the horse show today! The woman knows what she loves!!! Chuck & Wills - you do the Parliament, that's boring! I'm saving my energy for the horsies - they're better than politicians any day 😉 https://twitter.com/royalfocus1/status/1525061318776172547?s=20&t=-1T-UaIqRpFHHJyz4xJj8w

dixiedoodah 1,003 Report post Posted May 13, 2022 I mean, I know it’s a lifetime job, but how many of them live this long. I feel like it’s almost torturous to expect this old woman to do these things. Just let her go play with her horses and dogs. I think they tried to do that with the earlier statement that basically said don’t expect her to attend anything anymore, just be pleasantly surprised if she shows up to stuff. But then the press continues to speculate over every single event anyway. I mean aren’t people normally trying to convince their 70-year-old grandparents to take it easy? Can you imagine forcing your grandparents out in full regalia every day in front of thousands of people. I wish at this point she would just essentially let it go to Regency so she could get a break.. I don’t know if she would enjoy the break though.
Hoyaheel 1,874 Report post Posted May 14, 2022 She set herself up for this when she said she'd serve until she dies. Netherlands queen abdicated when she was tired of it and her son was ready and the entire family seems happy. ER2 was scarred by her uncle's abdication (and, more likely, her mother's lifelong reaction to it - including blaming her husband's rather early death on it, I believe) so there's no way she would consider. Sad, truly.
