Joaquin Phoenix struggles for love

thesuperficial.com

Joaquin Phoenix says he has problems finding a girlfriend, because all his potential dates research him first. He explains, "I met a girl recently and we were out at dinner and suddenly she announces, 'I'm vegan.' I knew that was purely for my benefit because she got the information from a magazine and thought that was what she should say so we had something in common. You can see why meeting new people is so awkward. Normal things, like, 'Are your parents together?' they already know. If I could make films and never do interviews or have my photo taken, I'd do it."

MUGGERS LEARN THE HARD CELL

Page Six

DON'T mess with rap sensation Saigon - you might just catch a beatdown. The Atlantic Records star, who's appeared on "Entourage" as Jerry "Turtle" Ferrara's protégé, was exiting Meatpacking hotspot The Diner in the wee hours yesterday morning when he was "jumped by two guys trying to steal his neck chain," according to his spokesman. Saigon, who was with a male friend, was hit over the head with a bottle that "resulted in an artery being cut," said his rep. But not only did Saigon manage to hold on to his expensive platinum and diamond necklace, he supposedly stripped the attackers of their cellphones - and used them to beat the thugs. After the humbled muggers fled, Saigon, who was released from prison in 2001 after a six-year stint for attempted murder, was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital. The doctor who stitched up his head is apparently a big hip-hop fan. "The doctor and Saigon posed for pictures with the muggers' cellphone cameras," his chatty rep added. Saigon is home recovering, and police are investigating the incident.

De Niro's Maid Gets Prison TimeTuesday Feb 21, 2006 4:25pm ESTBy Stephen M. Silverman people.comA housekeeper for such stars as Robert De Niro and Candace Bergen has been sentenced to one to three years in prison for "cleaning out" – as opposed to just plain cleaning – her client's homes. New York State Supreme Court Justice Renee White ignored the pleas of the weeping defendant, Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz, to let her return immediately to Poland despite her plea two weeks ago of being guilty to charges of grand larceny, forgery and identity theft, the Associated Press reports. "I would like the judge to allow me to go home," Turyk-Wawrynowicz, 35, said through tears and a Polish interpreter on Tuesday, telling the judge that her sister died recently and left behind several young children. "They have no one to take care of them," said the maid. But advising Turyk-Wawrynowicz that she had "shown no remorse for your actions, but only remorse for your predicament," the judge said she would hand down the sentence rather than a ticket home. "You worked not just by cleaning and dusting, but by cleaning out the property of the various employers you worked for." When she pleaded guilty to grand larceny, Turyk-Wawrynowicz admitted stealing diamond earrings from De Niro's wife, which Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Anne Schwartz said were worth $95,500. The lead investigator on the case also said the maid took Hightower's shoes and Bergen's leather jacket and cameras. The judge said she wanted Turyk-Wawrynowicz to do prison time "so that you get an idea of the punishment that is involved when you violate the laws of this country."

Jesse McCartney, 18 enjoys a beer in a happening Hollywood night spot.

This photo of McCartney was taken last Saturday night at Mood, one of the hottest clubs in Hollywood. Under California law, no one under 21 is permitted to enter the club, much less drink inside. But the Corona in Jesse's firm grip tells a very different story.

A Hollywood nightclub promoter, who asked to remain anonymous, was blunt:

"Authorities know that there are underage celebrities inside drinking and if they don't care, why should we?"

He added the obvious: "Celebrities help to make our clubs more exclusive."

California's Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is charged with enforcing the State's underage drinking laws. TMZ has obtained every citation the ABC issued in the City of Los Angeles for 2005 -- 207 in total. Mood was never cited. Indeed, TMZ's record search revealed that Mood has never been cited since opening its doors. The ABC seems far more interested in busting mom and pop liquor stores, often using underage decoys in sting operations.

Maybe if liquor weren't so easy to get if you are famous you wouldn't have quite so many entering re-hab at young ages.eta: if Joaquin doesn't like it then he shouldn't give out personal information.

popsugar.comHarry Potter Drunk GirlWe love a good underage drinking scandal. It’s not like we haven’t seen it before. I was never a drinker but I get why people enjoy it. Especially when your 15 you think it’s cool so you even take pictures of yourself drinking without realizing this wonderful world of the Internet allows all of us to watch you “break the law.” Here’s the young Harry Potter star, Emma Watson, who we have watched grow up on screen as Hermione. Jossip found even more pics from a different night. She’s only 15 (not legal until 18 in the UK) but in our minds she may forever be 10 so it’s hard to see this one.

Almost (too) famous, Chicago Sun Times

Sienna Miller, perhaps concerned she's at about 14:42 on the clock of her 15 minutes of fame, has decided to make a big deal about being too famous.

Sienna, who's British, told World Entertainment News Network she's thinking about asking Tony Blair, the prime minister over there, to pass a stronger law to protect celebrities from paparazzi.

Relax, kiddo. Another six months of your kind of "acting" and you won't be pestered any more, ever.

I just want to give my $0.02 about girls drinking at 15, as seen with the HP girl. In Europe (at least in my country) it is perfectly acceptable to be drinking beer in bars starting at age 16. I could get beer easily at 15 too, because they don't ask for IDs and discerning between 15 and 16 is pretty difficult. As long as she knows what she's doing (my mum always said to alternate alcohol with non-alcoholic drinks and eat stuff, as she always gave me tangerines, when i went out as a 15-year old).Anyway, I think it is not really that bad if she's drinking a beer now and again. As long as she knows what she's doing....

I always liked the theory that European countries let people drink before they can drive. That way they learn to be reponsible drinkers before they ever learn how to drive a car. In Spain, drinking is allowed at 16 or so, with driving at 18 I think. Don't know if theory works, but nice idea.

Page SixMAJOR THIRSTTEEN queen Amanda Bynes had to settle for soft drinks on a recent trip to Boston. The 19-year-old actress was carded with her "She's the Man" co-stars during dinner at Todd English's Bonfire. Their handler, Dayna D'Itria, objected, saying, "I spoke to the manager, and I thought we had an understanding," a Page Six spy reports. After IDs were checked, everyone but Bynes ordered cocktails - but the server declined to bring them two drinks apiece as they had ordered. A spokeswoman for Bonfire said, "We abide by Massachusetts state law. We're not in the business of serving teens alcohol." A rep for Bynes said, "She never asked for a drink."

Having a beer now and then doesn't sound that bad. However been 15 myself, I never drank occasionally. If I had one, I had 5 more. While I never thought I had a problem, At 15 I was looking to get drunk and not just have a beer now and then. Maybe in the states we have a different set of priorities then in europe, and I think this comes from situations like college age young men and women dying from alcohol poisoning on college campuses, also the drinking and driving thing.ETA:

Keep in mind in other countries having a car is more of a luxury item then it is in the states. With the high price of Gas Europe has always paid and the welfare economies, I imagine less teens in Europe would have access to a car then in the states. Edited by alpierce

I always had to be picked up by my mum if I went out, because we lived a bit outside of town and it wasn't really safe enough to bike home. So I did not want to drink too much, someone would find out. I did do the "drink too much" in college of course but I only got my drivers licence at 22 as it is really expensive to get one (atleast 20 lessons + enormous fees for examination) and then my mum would not let me drive her car

WINONA'S RIDE

NOT every celebrity gets the royal treatment at the Chateau Marmont. Winona Ryder had her car towed when she parked it in front of the Hollywood haunt and forgot to leave her keys with the valets. Ryder whooped it up at the after-party for 25-year-old designer Erin Fetherston's fashion show, where Fetherston screened a seven-minute film directed by Ellen von Unwerth and starring Kirsten Dunst cavorting in Fetherston's clothes. Others at the Palmes d'Or Champagne-sponsored bash included Bijou Phillips, Kate Bosworth, Brett Ratner, Danny Masterson, Steven Cojocaru and supermodel Omahrya.
