An image-rehab plan for Tiger Woods

By Rick Reilly

ESPN The Magazine

Hopefully, Tiger's people have Oprah's people on the phone already.

Tiger Woods is the first person in history to run his car into a hydrant and set himself on fire.

His reputation is shredded. His once-perfect name has been dragged through more mud than a Nantucket clam digger's boots. A once-spotless life is now an episode of "Cops."

So what now?

First, Oprah Winfrey.

"It has to be Oprah," says the king of Las Vegas publicity men, Dave Kirvin. "If you did a poll on who's most disgusted by this whole mess, it would be women. To win over those women, you need to win over Oprah. You win over Oprah, you win over America."

Once he's on Oprah's couch, he says this:

"To my wife, to my kids, to my family, to my friends, to my fans, I am so sorry. You believed in me. You looked up to me. You thought I was different, and I let you down. I'm ashamed of myself. My mom is ashamed of me. I'm sure my dad would be ashamed of me. I'm an idiot." Then he has to go full Tebow: "From this day forward, you will never see somebody work harder, 24 hours a day, to win back your trust."

It has to be next week and no later, because every day the British tabloids have him sleeping with everybody but the Page 3 girl. "The sooner he makes his public act of contrition, the sooner he takes the oxygen out of the story," Kirvin says.

Second, he needs to shut down his public life.

He needs to skip San Diego, skip the Masters, maybe even skip the U.S. Open. When your house is rubble, you don't go play the Buick Open. Tiger needs to prove to his wife, Elin, sponsors and fans that morality is more important than majors.

Third, he needs to clean house. If he wants to keep his wife, he has to get a new agent, a new caddie and some new friends. It's hard to believe all this went on without their help or knowledge. How can she see them as anything but enablers?

Fourth, he needs to freeze his corporate sponsors before they freeze him. He needs to tell them, "I'm not doing any ads or taking any payment until I can again prove myself worthy of your products. I'm sorry I've let you down. It won't happen again."

Fifth, he needs to write his Tiger Woods Learning Center a check for $5 million with a note that says, "Keep studying hard. I'll be back to help you fundraise in 2011."

He needs sincerity and commitment and honor now because he might have just ruined a lot of lives, maybe even his own. He needs transparency.

Let us into your life a little. Do the "A week on the road with Tiger" story. Give a home interview once in a while. Let people check in the closets and under the bed. Prove to the world you've changed. Because "no comment" and three security guards are only going to make people suspicious.

Sixth, a few manners wouldn't kill him. No more terrible-twos temper. No more swearing. No more throwing clubs. And instead of pulling his signature blow-by move on the hundreds of autograph seekers waiting for him after every round, stop and sign for 15 minutes. Hasn't hurt Phil Mickelson any.

This fall is straight out of the Book of Wallenda. Not so much because his bottom was so low, but because his top was so high. His image, his likability, his hero factor were in the clouds. He was the kid with the 10,000-watt smile from the public golf course -- he brought golf to people of color all over the world. He was the great black hope of the game who made good.

A golfer? With two young kids at home? Alleged to have had affairs with numerous women? The best swinger becoming the biggest swinger? Overnight? Unthinkable!

Seventh, he has to return to the Tour and take the ridicule he has coming. He'll feel as though he's being paraded down Main Street, naked, in a glass box. Women will be wearing TIGER, YOU FORGOT ME T-shirts. Guys will be holding ELIN OVERCLUBBED signs. Babes will be hollering, "Hey, Tiger! I took my name off my voice mail like you said!"

He can shoot 42 over par; he just has to get through it. Then he has to play in a major, maybe the British at St. Andrews, where he won last time. And then he has to start winning again.

"There's four steps to getting past this in the public eye," Kirvin says. "First tournament. First major. First tournament victory. First major victory. Only then will the media let us get over this. The public will forgive him. They won't ever forget, but they'll forgive."

He'll come out of this as an even better player, if that's possible. The golf course will be the one place where he can go to forget, and he will want to forget constantly. Where he once spent six hours on the range, he will spend eight. Where he once had the will of 10 men, he will have the will of 100. He will win again -- win huge -- and people will call it a comeback.

But it won't be a comeback. He never lost his game. He lost only his mind.

Elin reportedly wants to save marriage to Tiger

'She loves him and she is devastated over learning of his philandering'

PEOPLE.com

While more details surface about Tiger Woods's reported dalliances, the golf great's Swedish-born wife, Elin Nordegren, has yet to speak about the scandal or give any hint of her distress – beyond a frantic 911 call after her mother collapsed at Woods's Florida home Tuesday.

But several sources close to the couple tell PEOPLE Nordegren, 29, was genuinely shocked by her husband's reported infidelities, and is now in deep discussions with him to see if their marriage can be saved. “She loves him and she is totally devastated over learning of his philandering,” one source close to Nordegren says. “She honestly did not know he was cheating on her.”

The same source says Nordegren questioned Woods about rumors that he was having affairs, but believed his denials. "It is sort of sad that all of the golfers knew about Tiger’s cheating throughout his marriage while poor Elin believed his lies when he told her he was not seeing any other women when on the road for days at a time,” the source says. "Now that it has hit her over the head, she is going to make the best decision for her and the kids.”

A smart, athletic student who passed up the chance to study child psychology in Sweden to become a nanny in the U.S., Nordegren tried hard not to lose herself in her husband's fame. But everything changed after Woods’s Nov. 27 car crash. Since then, says a source inside Woods’s camp, the couple have discussed the full breadth of Woods's infidelities. "She knows everything," says the source.

Seriously? I'm a pretty strong believer in "for better or worse," but this is ridiculous. Countless "mistresses," unprotected sex, gambling, possible substance abuse, possible illegitimate children: If it was an isolated incident or "just" a gambling problem, etc., then maybe it would be worth sticking around and making things work. In this situation, if even half of what we are hearing is true, I think a nice home in Sweden and a new direction in life for Elin sound like a great idea.

I also find the notion that Tiger can just go on "Oprah" and rehab his image and win back women (do women watch golf?) to be insulting. It sounds like he has the maturity and impulse control of a three-year-old, and no amount of skill in hitting a golf ball can compensate for that.

bottomline, he's only sorry he was caught. I think its distrubing that not only he did it, but the sort of people he did it with. I couldnt live with a person who was attracted to that sort of person, or someone who, 10 minutes after marriage decided to stick it every place he could find skanks. He's only sorry he was caught. she didnt know him as well as she though but who he is is laid bare (if you will). If this in and of itself doesnt disgust her, no symptathy.

I'm suspicious. I wonder if Elin actually wants to save her marriage to Tiger because she loves him or in fact she's willing to stay with him for X more years because she'd be paid a fortune to do so. Because, of course, it's neither in her or his best interests to leak the story, "Elin hates Tiger's guts but is willing to live a lie for many millions of dollars because he wants the world to see that Elin forgave him... so should his fans."

Glenn Beck compares Tiger Woods to OJ Simpson in midst of mistresses scandal

BY Neil Nagraj

DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Wednesday, December 9th 2009, 4:36 PM

On Tuesday's episode of "The Glenn Beck Program," Beck asked listeners a "Christmas question" as the carol "Do You Hear What I Hear?" played in the background.

"Do you believe Tiger Woods may actually be O.J. Simpson?"

A dumbfounded guest responded, "Is that a Christmas question?"

Beck persisted, prompting another guest to respond, "I think the thing with O.J. was the murder, wasn't it?"

Undeterred, Beck referred to the 911 call placed from Woods' home early Monday morning.

"Well, there was a woman taken to the hospital last night at O.J.'s, er, I mean, I'm sorry, Tiger's house," Beck said.

His guest interjected, "Nobody believes it was an assault."

"I'm not saying it was an assault or anything else," Beck said. "I'm just ... you know, Tiger ... we're starting to lose control here."

The panel, in a bizarre attempt at satire, then suggested Woods implicate himself in absurd criminal activity he could subsequently retract to lessen the sex scandal's stain on his reputation.

"I want him to have ACORN-underage-El Salvadorian hookers in his basement ... that's what I'm leaking ... so he can say, 'No, that was just ridiculous.' "

The Web quickly reverberated with commentary alleging racist undertones in the broadcast, TheAtlanticWire.com reported.

Limbaugh, too, has waded into the controversy with a racially provocative statement.

On Tuesday's edition of "The Rush Limbaugh Show," the right-wing radio firebrand sounded off on "the black frame of mind" and the disappointment he claims the African-American community feels toward the Obama presidency.

"The black frame of mind is terrible. They're depressed. They're down -- Obama's not doing anything for 'em. How is that hoax and change workin' for ya? They're all livid," Limbaugh said.

Blacks are "upset" and "feel abandoned" by Obama and, he added, "I'm sure Tiger Woods' choice of females [is] not helping 'em out with their attitudes there, either."

That the women involved in the Tiger Woods affair allegations are all white has been widely discussed in the black community -- and Woods' already-shaky standing among many African-Americans has taken a bludgeoning.

Are you kidding me??? :jawdrop: Is there any question at this point that these men are either raving lunatics or shameless mountebanks??

I don't see how anyone can claim that Tiger Woods's "race" is a factor in this story. Neither the argument that this story only is getting attention because of his skin color nor the argument that -- well, frankly I have no idea what Glenn Beck is trying to prove, and I am happier not knowing it. Anyway, to me charges of racism do not hold water in this case, and I keep hoping that people today have the decency not to ascribe to an entire group of people certain generalizations based on the bad behavior of an individual.

And can we stop calling these women "mistresses" and call them by their more appropriate labels, please? Let's try "casual hook-ups." That's a phrase that can be printed in the newspaper, isn't it?

I call them JUMPOFFS!

Whatever they are, why do they feel the need to jump on the 'Ho Bus' and tell everyone who/what they have been doing?

I believe the correct term for them are "ho-bags". A mistress seems to put a higher spin to it. The one I heard interviewed on the TODAY show said when she asked him for some money to help her move he said he could'nt do that! And that was after she had been sleeping with him for a year. She said at that point she knew he wasn't "serious" about her. Well, duh!! How about the thought that he only saw you once in a while and then it was right to bed and he was married to someone else at the time!!!!! She must be a real stupid ho. I don't understand how these women could do this with him knowing he was married! Talk about skanks. She also said she was in a relationship and living with someone at the time she was "seeing" Tiger. What a scumbag.

Alleged Tiger Mistress Shoots Down Prostitution Claim

Posted Image

Lover, yes. Paid escort, no.

That's what Las Vegas cocktail hostess and alleged Tiger Woods mistress Jamie Jungers is saying in a round of media appearances.

Set to be seen Friday night on NBC's Dateline special "The Secret Life of Tiger Woods" (it airs 9 p.m. ET), Jungers made her live TV interview debut Friday morning on the Today show – "to clear the air," she told host Meredith Vieira, "to make all these false rumors in the past."

Jungers, 26, said she met Woods in 2005 at a nightclub party to celebrate the charity for which she was working at the time. He saw her across the room and asked to meet her. She couldn’t believe she was meeting Tiger Woods – although, she said, "I'm not a huge sports fan."

They drank and hung out, she said, and ended up in bed that first night. "The more we drank, the more flirtatious it got," she said.

He then pursued her, she said, telling her he wanted to get to know her better. He also asked that she use a fake name to identify him on her cell phone.

Escort Service

The 600-lb. elephant in the room, however, is whether Jungers was part of an escort service that allegedly often collected money from the golf champ. Jungers vehemently denies the label that she’s an escort. In terms of financial gain, "I got nothing from this relationship – except a broken heart," she told Vieira.

"I'm obviously gonna bring my lawyer into this and make sure that whoever is making these accusations will pay for it, because that’s 100 percent false," she tells Dateline. "I have nothing to do with prostitution and never have, never will."

In an interview with Access Hollywood, former Hollywood madam Michelle Braun claimed two of her employees – Holly Sampson, a porn actress, and Jungers – had been paid escorts for Woods.

As for evidence that the women were in her employ, Braun – who said there were "about a half dozen more" women who were paid to keep Woods company – told Access, "I've got e-mails referencing them from clients and 1099 [forms]. They were filed with IRS.”

Jungers, who said she broke off the relationship with Woods when he said he could not help her out financially, told Vieira about Braun, "I never even heard the woman’s name."

Timing of Affairs

In a widely circulated video clip from an adult Web site, Sampson has claimed that her sexual relationship with Woods occurred before his marriage to Elin Nordegren. (The two wed in October 2004.)

In the Dateline interview, Jungers said her relationship with Woods took place during his marriage – in fact, it was reported on Today, shortly after his wedding.

In response to a question asking if she might owe Nordegren an apology for carrying on with her husband, Jungers tells Dateline, "No, I don't. I feel like … that's his business. Everybody makes mistakes. This wasn't something that I did yesterday or a month ago or a year ago. This was years ago. I was younger. And I'm not saying that what I did then was right. But I'm certainly not gonna say that it was wrong."

Besides, she says, there was affection involved. "It was way more than sex," said Jungers. "It was very … it was very emotional. I mean, we had … I had a lot of feelings towards him. And he showed me that he had a lot of feelings towards me. It wasn't just a sexual situation. It was … I believe, it … it was love. I loved him. I still love him."

As for her current feelings toward Woods in light of reports of his alleged widespread womanizing, Jungers said: "I definitely look at him a lot differently after hearing about all the other girls. And I really don’t know what to think about Tiger … I hope for his sake and for his family’s sake that things work out for him."

Rachel Uchitel Offended

In related news, Rachel Uchitel, who also has been linked in the scandal involving the world's No. 1 golfer, is lashing out after a comment was made about her on a daytime chat show Thursday.

A statement released to news outlets by her attorney, Gloria Allred, said, in part: "Today on The View on ABC television a co-host called our client a 'hooker' … This statement about Ms. Uchitel is false and defamatory and highly offensive to her."

"Even if the host said it in a joking way," the statement continued, Uchitel – who handles VIP clients at a New York nightclub – "is not amused, because she values her reputation and her reputation has been damaged by this statement as it is completely false."

A retraction has been demanded.

Report: Tiger Woods Paid $40,000 a Weekend for "Girls Next Door"

Did Tiger Woods pay for the company of women?

That's the claim of Michelle Braun, owner of a former Las Vegas VIP escort service. She tells E! News that the champion golfer spent $30,000 to $40,000 on "her girls" per weekend. Two of those "girls," she says, are porn star Holly Sampson and lingerie model Jamie Jungers -- both of whom have been romantically linked to Woods. (Jungers has denied receiving money from Woods; Sampson has not commented on claims she received money, though she had acknowledged a relationship with Woods.)

Woods "had a pretty big appetite for girls," Braun claims. Any kinky requests? She says that he generally asked for "the college cutie, girls-next-door look."

Like most of her clients, Braun says, Woods paid in cash and, ahem, "like to communicate by text message." Woods last communicated with her in "mid 2008," she says -- and he never, ever used email.

Why does Braun think Woods paid for her hired ladies? "It's supposed to be discreet," she tells E!" "When you pay it's established that it's a business relationship. You don't have a girl thinking he is going to leave his wife for her and they will fall in love and have a fairy tale relationship."

I don't find any of these women pretty......

Maybe it's just me!

It's not. :D

No, it's not just both of you either. Speaking as a normal (I hope) heterosexual male, I don't find any of them attractive.

As a heterosexual male I do find some of Tiger's women to be attractive. Specifically,Rachel Uchitel;

with that being said, these are not the type of women that I would pursue a relationship with.

However, there a very few straight men that would be able to resist (especially Uchitel) a

number of these women;their personalities/character might be reprehensible but they are

physically attractive.

Agreed. I stated earlier that I thought Uchitel was definitely hot...she's got a nice set of lips, even if they might be collagen.

The rest of the women, are Hooters or Waffle House hot...no offense to anyone who is currently employed at those fine establishments.... :4biggrin:

well respectfully, there are plenty of straight men who could resist them. Either because they aren't their type or because they dont let their penis make all the decisions. just like there are plenty of women who could resist the lure of screwing a celebrity. i know the conventional wisdom is that the only reason men aren't doing everyone in sight in because women put on the breaks. the extention of that argument is that homosexual men therefore cannot be faithful. In fact its really far to blunt a generalization to be useful. on a side note, does anyone find all the claims that these women were left "heartbroken" just a scream?

It's got to be very heartbreaking to realize that the exclusive story you were planning on selling to the tabloids is becoming less so with each passing hour.

You just know that Rachel girl is PISSED to high heaven! She honestly must have thought she was the only one. And then to see how skanky the rest are has to be salt on the wound. What's that saying about 'making the bed you sleep in'?
