Ashlee Simpson Joining Melrose Place Spinoff

Monday March 9, 2009

CW's buzzed-about Melrose Place spinoff has a new tenant: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will play a lead character named Violet, "a bright-eyed but shrewd small-town girl and recent L.A. transplant who has come to town with a secret."

The trade reports that her character resembles the blond, budding-Southern-belle starlet Sandy Harling, played by Amy Locane on the original Fox series.

This isn't the Simpson-Wentz's first stab at acting: She stars on the March 18 episode of CBS' CSI:NY and regularly appeared on WB soap 7th Heaven.

Meanwhile, original Melrose Place star Courtney Thorne-Smith -- who played recovering alcoholic Alison Parker -- says she hasn't been asked to be on the show.

"The show is for the next generation," she tells Usmagazine.com. "They don't want us old fogies."

Her tips for the Simpson-Wentz and the new cast?

"Just enjoy it!" she tells Us. "I just wish I'd had more perspective because I could've relaxed more. We had a great time. It was so intense and so fast. I didn't have the perspective to really enjoy what was happening."

"I ran into [Melrose Place alum] Marcia Cross in the park the other day with her kids who are so cute," she added. "What a time warp! It was 15 year ago, and here we are with our babies in the park!"

I saw her on CSI NY. She played a maid who came upon a dead body. Next to the dead body was a bag of drugs. So, instead of calling the cops, she stole the drugs and tried to sell them.

A rep for Simpson, who's currently spending some alone time with her hubby in Australia without baby Bronx Mowgli, said, "This is not true. Everything is fine in their world."

My, how Bronx Mowgli is growing!

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has posted a new photo of her 4-month-old son on her Twitter page.

"I present you my little man and his adorable cheeks!" she writes.

Her afternoons with Bronx are about to get a little shorter.

Next week, she begins shooting the pilot of CW's updated version of Melrose Place.

She plays a small-town girl who moves to L.A. with a secret past.

"I think it will be awesome," her husband Pete Wentz recently told Usmagazine.com. "I told her that I hope she gets to play the bitch."

Pete Parties While Ashlee's Home with Bronx

April 8, 2009

Posted Image

Ashlee Simpson is a proud mama, sharing a new photo of son Bronx on Twitter. However, she may not be so proud of her husband's recent antics in Las Vegas!

On Tuesday, Ashlee posted a photo of her four-month-old on the micro-blogging site, saying: "I present you my little man and his adorable cheeks!" Interesting timing as Star reports in our April 20 issue -- on sale today -- that Pete Wentz was getting wild in Sin City with scantily clad dancers and a boozy Slip 'n' Slide over the weekend.

The Fall Out Boy bassist — who was without his wife of nearly one year — partied hard with about 50 band members, dancers and pals (including Girls Next Door star Holly Madison) following a sold-out show at the Palms Casino Resort on April 5.

"Everybody was going absolutely crazy," an eyewitness tells Star. "People were even drunkenly playing makeshift Slip 'n' Slide with a mat and lubricant. And Pete was in great spirits. He was dancing and singing along to his band's own songs, grinding up against the dancers."

At one point he was "dancing on a pool table with the girls," the partygoer adds.

However, earlier in the day, Ashlee — who headed back home after attending FOB's April 4 concert in Irvine, Calif. — Twittered: "I am beyond sad to leave my love... My heart is breaking as we drive home." And also:"I need my hubs."

Clearly Pete wasn't quite as upset.

Ashlee Simpson: Wasted and Wasting Away?

Wednesday, June 03, 2009

By Hollie McKay

Reports were recently running rampant that Ashlee Simpson was expecting baby number two, but the 24-year-old certainly put that rumor to rest at the Jay-Z and Eminem performance to launch Activision’s "DJ Hero" in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Let’s just say Mrs. Wentz was just a little, well "tipsy" and was seen stumbling from the VIP area into the main theater while clutching a body guard and a friend who were helping her walk. Pretty soon after, Pop Tarts spies spotted hubby Pete Wentz and "Blink 182" front-man Mark Hoppus making a hasty exit -- perhaps the "Fallout Boy" had heard word his wife needed a little lovin.’

But hey, the younger Simpson sis is certainly allowed to let her hair down -- although some concern has been raised in recent weeks over her fading frame. Despite giving birth six months ago, the upcoming "Melrose Place" starlet shocked party peeps with her boney body and super slim legs poking out between her black short shorts.

"It seems she has lost a lot of weight," an inside source said. "It’s hard work being a mom and being back on-set. She is taking care of herself, she’s happy."

And clearly Wentz and Simpson couldn’t be more committed to their nuptials.

"We actually went on a trip down to Australia recently and that was a recommitment kind of thing," Wentz told Tarts, adding that he hopes their son Bronx "gets his looks from his mother." Awww

From Page Six today:

June 4, 2009 --

ASHLEE Simpson is married to Pete Wentz and she's the mother of his child, but she's apparently still insecure when it comes to her man's former flames.

An out-of-control Simpson loudly trash-mouthed "Gossip Girl" actress Michelle Trachtenberg on Monday night at the "DJ Hero" video game party at LA's Wiltern Theatre, according to PerezHilton.com.

Ashlee, Jessica Simpson's younger sister, had to be restrained at the event where Jay-Z and Eminem performed. The trouble started when Wentz and Simpson were seated near Trachtenberg, who dated Wentz before Simpson met the Fall Out Boy bassist.

According to PerezHilton: "The evening started off very civilly. Pete and Ashlee had a pleasant conversation with Michelle and her boyfriend for close to 20 minutes, and even showed [Trachtenberg] some baby pictures of [Ashlee's] little boy, Bronx."

But then Simpson started drinking. "Things got out of control," an insider was quoted. An increasingly loud Simpson began to give Wentz a lap dance while staring directly at Michelle and hurling insults at her. "She was grinding up on Pete like a stripper. It was actually pretty disgusting," a witness told the Web site.

Things reached a climax when Simpson screamed at a confused Trachtenberg, "I hope you know, the whole time you were dating Pete, I was [bleep]ing him!"

A bystander dragged Simpson away from Trachtenberg, who once starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," while Wentz looked mortified.

Trachtenberg's spokesperson didn't return Page Six's calls. But Simpson's rep said, "It was just a misunderstanding. Ashlee has since apologized to Michelle and they remain on good terms."

Meanwhile, Wentz and Simpson will celebrate his 30th birthday this weekend at club Bank at the Bellagio.

Simpson-Wentz Blasts Fresh Break-Up Reports

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has slammed reports her marriage to Pete Wentz is in trouble amid rumors the couple is on the verge of a split.

The pop star is said to be struggling to balance being a mother to their 7-month-old son, Bronx Mowgli, and her career, and her marriage is suffering as a result, according to Us Weekly magazine.

A source tells the publication, "Ashlee is a loving mother, but she is overwhelmed."

The couple has been dogged by allegations of a break-up for months, and Simpson-Wentz was forced to dismiss the reports in March, with a spokesperson insisting "Everything is fine in their world."

But the rumors refuse to go away and Simpson-Wentz is reportedly infuriating the Fall Out Boy rocker with her recent partying and drunken behavior.

She hit the headlines last week after launching a verbal attack on Wentz's ex-girlfriend, actress Michelle Trachtenberg, at a Los Angeles bash on June 1. She subsequently apologized for the outburst, claiming there was a "misunderstanding" and that the two women "remain on good terms."

Sources close to the couple allege the bust-up wasn't the first time Simpson-Wentz has unleashed her fury.

An insider says, "Ashlee is having major problems with Pete right now. They fight constantly. She is seriously considering leaving him. They have been arguing a lot recently. They're in different places (in their lives)."

However, a representative for the 24-year-old is adamant their romance is still going strong.

The spokesperson tells the magazine, "Ashlee and Pete are in a stable, happy marriage. They love one another and love being a family."

From Page Six...

THAT Joe Simpson, never one to miss an opportunity, is trying to revive Ashlee Simpson's record career by pitching a concept album on which Ashlee would record songs of Michael Jackson.

I bet ya even MJ's most ardent fans don't want to hear THAT...

and she has no fans so this will bomb big time.

Pete Wentz Wants a Soccer Team Worth of Kids

Pete Wentz loves being a dad to his 10-month-old son Bronx Mowgli, but his plans of fathering a soccer team will have to wait.

"Everything is awesome about being a dad," Wentz, 30, tells PEOPLE at the Yahoo! Yodel Studio in New York City's Times Square on Tuesday. "Eventually we want to be able to have a soccer team."

He adds that he and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, 25, just have to "schedule and time things right ... Ashlee is really focused on Melrose Place right now and I'm figuring what I'm doing next year."

In the mean time, Fall Out Boy's Wentz is enjoying spending time with Bronx. "The best part for me now is that I think for the first 9 months mom is so essential," Wentz says. "When they start hanging out with dad more you're like, 'Wow I feel like a dad.' You go to music class and do fun stuff together, it's cool."

Being a father has even allowed the singer to have more appreciation for his own father. "It makes me realize all of the little things that my dad sacrificed when he had me," Wentz says. "It's sad it took 30 years but I totally realize it now."

SCARY SKINNY ASHLEE SIMPSON

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's weight is plummeting - and her friends say it's because she's almost obsessed about her role on Melrose Place.

The 25-year-old actress has been crash-dieting and stressing over how she measures up to her gorgeous co-stars on the CW series, say pals.

"She doesn't seem to eat much anymore and went from a size 8 when she was pregnant to not even filling out a size 0 now. She's barely above 100 pounds," one friend revealed to The ENQUIRER. The actress stands 5-foot 6 inches.

"She substitutes Red Bull for some meals, and snacks on nuts and other small things instead of having a decent lunch or dinner."

Ashlee, who gave birth to son Bronx Mowgli November 2008, plays Violet Foster, a small-town girl who is trying to make it big in Los Angeles.

Since Ashlee accepted the Melrose job, friends say she's placed tremendous pressure on herself to lose her extra pregnancy weight.

In addition to the crash diet, she used a program developed by celeb trainer Ramona Braganza called "321 Baby Bulge Be Gone," which incorporates cardio and strength training sessions.

"It was almost as if she was obsessed with looking as good as possible for all the show posters and advertisements," said the friend.

Exclusive: Simpson and Egglesfield out in 'Melrose Place' shake-up

by Michael Ausiello

ausiello-melrose-place-ashley_lTwo months into its run, The CW’s ratings-challenged (but creatively-smokin’) Melrose Place reboot is about to undergo a major renovation. For starters, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield have been let go (they’ll last air in January), and the “Who Killed Sydney?” mystery is being wrapped up in December. Then, in addition to Heather Locklear’s Amanda, several new characters will be introduced and the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe. Here, in an exclusive interview, exec producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer explain why they’re fixing a series that many (myself included) felt wasn’t broken and tease what’s ahead for Melrose 2.0 3.0.

What was behind the decision to let Ashlee and Colin go?

TODD SLAVKIN: Well, we always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12. And we always knew that [Ashlee's] character of Violet would be instrumental in that as a suspect, and [Colin's character of] Augie as well. And once that murder mystery was solved, she would go on her way. That was the original plan going into the development of the show.

So it was always the plan for Ashlee to leave after episode 12?

SLAVKIN: Yes. Because we felt that once the murder mystery was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift into a much more fun, romantic, sexy upbeat kind of show, and [her] character would move on.

Same thing with Colin?

SLAVKIN: Colin was always meant to be the ultimate suspect. And his brooding alcoholic [character] tonally didn’t fit the paradigm moving into post-murder mystery Melrose Place.

Is it fair to say that if either of those characters clicked you would’ve found a way to keep them?

SLAVKIN: Well, you never know when you go along. But in the end, we felt like it was right [decision].

DARREN SWIMMER: The nature of soaps is that as things progress along, the story takes on a life of its own and the characters come and go in relation to that.

How did Ashlee and Colin take the news?

SLAVKIN: They’re total professionals and they took it like professionals. When you go into a show you never know what’s going to evolve and what the possibilities are. But because they knew ahead of time [that leaving was a possibility], it wasn’t a complete shock.

People are going to look at these changes and assume it’s a direct result of the show’s disappointing ratings.

SLAVKIN: Well, I understand that perspective. None of us foresaw the ratings; there’s nothing we can do about that. All we can do is write and produce the best show we know how. It’s fine to speculate, but in the end there was always a plan.

What about Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro? Are they leaving, too?

SLAVKIN: Thomas is very much a part of the fabric of this show. Many storylines are ahead for him. You’ll get to see him interact with his old friend Amanda Woodward as well as all the characters on our show. With Laura, we would never close the door officially. She did her part in the murder mystery. We love her. We think she is gorgeous and a great actress and would love to have her be involved in the future, but there is no plan at the moment.

Can you elaborate on the tonal shift?

SLAVKIN: Now that the characters are no longer suspects, they can have a great time, they can focus on their careers, they can get into bed with each other without having this ominous cloud hanging over the building… But this is still Melrose Place. There’s still going to be intrigue on the show.

Do you think viewers were turned off by the dark nature of the show?

SWIMMER: Who knows why the ratings aren’t better? I think for us, it’s just a matter of moving on in the direction we [always] wanted to go.

Some people might wonder why you’re fixing what’s not broken. Personally, I love the show.

SLAVKIN: Which we understand and I totally get that. I think our feeling is that TV shows need to evolve. Mike, you’re a fan of Smallville. You’ve watched that show and you’ve seen the evolution in that show. Characters come and go. This being much more of a soap opera, we feel that it’s heated up more rapidly, where characters come and go and have arcs and move on. There will be new characters coming in.

Tell me about those new characters.

SLAVKIN: There’s a doctor, a new resident at the hospital who is irreverent and funny and will mix it up and move into the building. He will be a roommate of one of the characters and interact with Lauren. He’s a guy that, even though he’s a doctor, he doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him and he ends up lightening up Lauren. We think this guy’s a lot of fun and is going to mix it up in a great way with the rest of the cast.

Has the role been cast?

SLAVKIN: Not yet.

Any other new characters?

SWIMMER: We have [Heather Locklear's] new love interest played by Billy Campbell. He has a three-episode arc. He plays basically a billionaire version of Jonah. He’s the equivalent of a Mark Cuban. Again, a lot of fun, funny, irreverent, and is someone who can actually make Amanda Woodward smile.

How long do you have Heather for?

SLAVKIN: A long time. She’s in every episode moving forward. She’s a major focus [of the show]. She has a hidden agenda that will become not so hidden as the episodes move along. She’s not just the boss of Ella [Katie Cassidy].

Does Heather still have it?

SLAVKIN: Absolutely. Not only is she so fun as Amanda, but she’s such an amazing, hysterical woman. Her [return] is going to be a big moment on Melrose Place.

Pete & Ashley Wentz Selling Marital Home

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz are selling their marital home because it's not kid-friendly.

The pair has put the sprawling hillside Beverly Hills mansion on the market because they're on the hunt for a home with a yard for baby son Bronx.

A source tells Life & Style magazine, "The house is built into the side of a giant hill and it doesn't really have any yard.

"Now that Bronx is getting older they realised that really isn't a child-friendly house.

"They are going to sell this house and look for something that will be better suited to young children."

Ashlee bought the home in January 2007 for a reported $4.5 million (£2.8 million). It comes with four bedrooms, a gym, a gourmet kitchen, swimming pool and two-storey guesthouse.

Wentz 'Gets Tattoo Of Friend's Face'

Fall Out Boy bass player Pete Wentz has reportedly had his friend's face tattooed on his arm after losing a bet.

The star revealed that he had a "gentlemen's bet" with Cobra Starship singer Gabe Saporta, but ended up losing and having to undergo the forfeit, Contactmusic reports.

The tattoo, on Wentz's lower arm, is of Saporta's face surrounded by the words, "Gabey baby made me go bad", in homage to Cobra Starship song 'Good Girls Go Bad'.

The frontman later posted an image of the tattoo on his Twitter page.
